Position Summary: The Art Exhibition Technician assists with all technical aspects of art handling with regard to installation/de-installation, packing/unpacking, and storage of art objects under the direction of the Exhibition Preparator. The position also assists with the maintenance of the Art Storage and Prep Areas, routine maintenance of museum galleries, campus collection, and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills
  • Must be able to use a variety of computer programs
  • Will need to use standard office equipment
  • Must be able to use a variety of carpentry tools

Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Nerman Museum Exhibitions – Assist with all aspects of museum exhibitions installations and (temporary exhibits and permanent collection), including the preparation of pedestals, plinths, mounting boards, mounts, temporary walls and vitrines. Performance is acceptable when: a. Assistance with exhibition pedestals, plinths, mounting boards, mounts, temporary walls and vitrines prepared to schedule. b. Assistance with artwork from current exhibition is carefully re-crated, packed, stored, and or shipped out under the Exhibition Preparator’s supervision. c. Assistance with the repair/prepping of gallery walls including installing and de-installing of temporary walls is completed under the Exhibition Preparator’s supervision. d. Assistance with the careful un-packing of the artwork and placement of artwork in the galleries has been completed. e. Assistance with artwork in galleries to properly light exhibitions. f. Assistance with the installation, under the Exhibition Preparator’s supervision, of all labels, text panels, and graphics for the exhibitions is completed on time. 
  • JCCC Permanent Art Collection – Assists with the installation/de-installation, and maintenance of JCCC Permanent Art Collection Focus Areas (installation of all pedestals, plinths, mounting boards, mounts, and vitrines.) Performance is acceptable when: a. Assistance with the installation of all pedestals, plinths, and mounting boards for artwork has been completed under the supervision of the Exhibition Preparator. b. Assistance with the installation/de-installation of all artwork in all JCCC Collection Focus areas has been completed under the supervision of the Exhibition Preparator. c. Assistance with the track lights and proper lighting of art. d. Assistance with the installation of all labels and design graphics for focus areas is completed. e. Ongoing maintenance and cleaning of all pedestals, plinths, mounting boards, and framed artwork in focus areas is done. 
  • Museum Art Storage/Prep Area – Assists with the receipt of crates, art, museum facilities materials. Performance is acceptable when: a. Assistance with Crates/packages of art for permanent collection and temporary exhibits are properly received. b. Assistance with Art for permanent collection is carefully un-crated/un-packed and properly placed in art storage. c. Assistance with All materials relating to construction/re-modeling/repair are properly received and securely stored. d. Assistance with Maintenance and cleaning of Prep Area and Art Storage is done to schedule and properly supervised by the Exhibition Preparator.
